Columbia Wrestling Club (CWC) is a volunteer organization whose goal is to teach the fundamentals of wrestling to as many kids in the Columbia, MO area that we can. Our fees are only $110 per season with scholarships available to those who need them.
While wrestling is a team sport, the matches are individual wrestlers against their competitors. Points are awarded based on specific moves taught to the wrestlers during practice. While executing moves proficiently is the goal, winning is not. The wrestlers are taught that you can learn as much from not winning a match as from winning and that each wrestler needs to come off the mat with respect for their opponent and recognition of what they learned during the match, win or lose.
CWC participates in Missouri USA sanctioned tournaments. Tournaments are optional, and are held on weekends from December to March. Tournaments are comprised of multiple individual matches between wrestlers of the same age and weight groups. Communication with parents and their wrestlers is via this web site. Parents are responsible for checking the website regularly for updates and new information. We will be posting all information here, including practice schedules, cancellations, tournament results, etc. Parents are responsible for checking the tournament rosters to ensure that their child is on the list for a specific tournament. Parents are also responsible for transportation for their wrestler to and from the tournaments and their supervision while at the tournaments.
Singlets will be distributed to those wrestlers wishing to participate in tournaments. While there is no usage fee for this, we do require a $50 deposit. If the deposit is a check, we will not cash the check; we will hold it until the singlet is returned, at which time we'll return the check.
